Are you Dr Anantharaman Ramasamy?
Dr Anantharaman Ramasamy is a consultant cardiologist and interventional cardiologist practising at The Wellington Hospital, Barts Heart Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and Homerton University Hospital. He provides comprehensive care for adults with cardiovascular conditions, with particular expertise in coronary artery disease and complex coronary procedures.
Holding dual accreditation in cardiology and general internal medicine, Dr Ramasamy takes a broad, individualised approach to cardiovascular health. He combines specialist clinical knowledge with evidence-based treatment, clear communication and a strong commitment to helping patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options.
His medical education began at the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated with distinction. He subsequently completed postgraduate training in Oxford and London, followed by specialist cardiology training at Barts Heart Centre. To develop his expertise further, he undertook advanced fellowship training at the Royal Brompton Hospital, focusing on complex coronary intervention and cardiogenic shock.
Dr Ramasamy completed a PhD at Queen Mary University of London, awarded without corrections, for his research into advanced coronary imaging and the characterisation of atherosclerotic plaque. He continues his academic work as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the university, where his research explores coronary imaging, computational modelling and the application of artificial intelligence to cardiovascular assessment.
His clinical and academic contributions have earned recognition both nationally and internationally. His achievements include the Royal Society of Medicine Prize, finalist placements in National Young Investigator Awards, recognition as a Top Trainer in Cardiology by the British Cardiovascular Society, and the Best Clinical Case Award at EuroPCR, a leading international conference in interventional cardiology.
In clinical practice, Dr Ramasamy specialises in diagnosing and treating coronary artery disease, including complex cases requiring advanced intervention. His procedural expertise includes coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), balloon angioplasty and coronary stent insertion. He has a particular interest in using coronary physiological measurements and intravascular imaging to guide PCI, helping to assess coronary lesions accurately, improve procedural precision and optimise stent placement and outcomes.
His diagnostic services also extend to a comprehensive range of non-invasive cardiovascular investigations. These include ambulatory electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure monitoring, echocardiography, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI and myocardial perfusion imaging. By combining these investigations with his interventional expertise, he can develop tailored management plans and support patients throughout their care, from initial assessment and diagnosis to treatment and follow-up.
Dr Ramasamy is known for his measured, reassuring manner and his ability to explain complex cardiac conditions in accessible terms. He aims to ensure that every patient feels listened to, understands their options and receives care tailored to their individual circumstances.
