Dr Amanda McCabe

Dr Amanda McCabe is a dedicated Consultant Paediatric Surgeon who provides comprehensive surgical care for infants, children, and young people. Specialising in lower gastrointestinal surgery, she delivers expert clinical care for young patients presenting with a wide range of congenital and acquired conditions. Dr McCabe prioritises a child-centred and compassionate approach, working closely with families to ensure they feel informed, reassured, and supported throughout every stage of the surgical journey.

Her clinical practice focuses on lower gastrointestinal conditions, with particular expertise in managing Hirschsprung's disease and anorectal anomalies. In addition to general paediatric surgery and neonatal surgical procedures, Dr McCabe has a strong interest in surgical education and simulation. She has been instrumental in developing advanced simulation training models to refine basic surgical skills and fine motor development for neonatal procedures, enhancing patient safety and surgical outcomes.

Dr McCabe earned her medical degree from the University of Nottingham. Following her initial medical training, she conducted research into the pathophysiology of congenital diaphragmatic hernia in the United States before completing higher surgical training in paediatric surgery in Scotland. She holds Fellowship in Paediatric Surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons, FRCS (Paed Surg). Actively involved in medical leadership and surgical governance, Dr McCabe serves as a Council Member at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Chair of the Surgical Specialty Board in Paediatric Surgery, a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee for Paediatric Surgery, and a member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers.
