About Mr Andrew Evans

Andrew Evans studied Medicine at the University of London and the Middlesex Hospital Medical School, qualifying in 1981. He completed his general surgical training in London, Sheffield and Manchester, before undertaking a further two years of specialist training in paediatric surgery at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool and Birmingham Children’s Hospital. In 1986, he took up a research post at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where his work contributed to the completion of his MD thesis.

Mr Evans was appointed Consultant Surgeon at Blackburn Royal Infirmary in 1995. Following the merger of Blackburn Royal Infirmary and Burnley General Hospital, he continued his consultant practice within East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. He practises as a general surgeon with three main sub-specialty interests: colorectal surgery, focusing on conditions of the lower bowel; abdominal wall surgery, including hernia repair; and paediatric surgery.

From 2000 to 2008, Mr Evans served as Clinical Director for Surgery at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. He has also held the role of Lead Clinician for Colorectal Surgery and was the Clinical Lead for Paediatric Surgery from 1995 to 2026. Alongside his clinical work, he has contributed extensively to surgical education, having served as a Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and as an Honorary Associate Professor at the American University of the Caribbean.

In 2019, Mr Evans was appointed as a Medical Examiner. He is a member of the Travelling Surgical Society of Great Britain and Ireland and continues to be actively involved in clinical practice and surgical education.

I could not fault anything. Dr Evans actually took the time to listen to me & reassured me everything would be fine after a past experience I had at another hospital. When I woke I didn’t know everything had been done. Did tell Dr Evans he was a star. Thanks to all staff as well. Keep up the great work you all do
