Mr Alexander Laird

Mr Alexander Laird is an experienced Consultant Urological Surgeon and Urologist with a comprehensive focus on urological oncology and general urological health. He provides patient-centred care across a broad spectrum of urological conditions, combining clinical excellence with clear and reassuring communication. His practice encompasses general urological concerns, such as male and female urinary tract symptoms and benign prostate disorders, as well as complex urological malignancies.

Specialising in urological oncology, Mr Laird has a primary sub-specialist focus on the management and surgical treatment of kidney cancer. He offers advanced operative techniques, including robotic partial nephrectomy, laparoscopic nephrectomy, and open renal surgery. In addition to his work with kidney conditions, his clinical interests include the assessment and treatment of prostate cancer, bladder cancer, benign prostate enlargement, and recurrent urinary tract infections. As an active researcher and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, he contributes significantly to advancing surgical innovation, clinical trials, and biomarker research in urological oncology.

Mr Laird completed his undergraduate medical degree (MB ChB) in Edinburgh, followed by higher surgical training in Scotland, earning a PhD and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Urology (FRCSEd Urol). To further refine his expertise in complex robotic surgery, he completed an international fellowship in uro-oncology. A dedicated educator, Mr Laird acts as an Educational Supervisor for surgical trainees and serves as Chair of the Specialty Surgical Board in Urology at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He maintains active professional affiliations with the British Association of Urological Surgeons and the European Association of Urology.
