Mr Alessandro Viviano

Mr. Alessandro Viviano is a highly respected Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and leading Aortic Surgeon at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, based at Hammersmith Hospital. With nearly two decades of experience in cardiac surgery and over three years in his leadership role, he has become a trusted expert in adult cardiac surgery and complex aortic procedures. Alongside his clinical practice, Mr. Viviano serves as the Clinical Governance Lead for Cardiac Surgery at Imperial College London, ensuring high standards of patient care and surgical excellence. He also operates and consults privately at The Cromwell Hospital and The Harley Street Clinic in London.

Mr. Viviano’s medical journey began with a degree from the University of Rome in 2007, followed by his specialisation in cardiothoracic surgery. He trained at prestigious institutions including Imperial College London, The Royal Sussex County Hospital, Guy's Hospital, and St George’s Hospital. His skills were further refined during an Advanced Cardiac and Aortic Fellowship at Waikato Hospital in New Zealand. He also earned a higher degree (MD Res) from St George's University of London and King's College London.

A passionate advocate for global health, Mr. Viviano has gained international experience through numerous electives and fellowships in Italy, New Zealand, Germany, the Netherlands, the USA, and China. This diverse training allows him to bring innovative techniques to his practice, ensuring he remains at the forefront of the field. He has extensive expertise in complex aortic surgery, including reoperations and the emergency repair of acute aortic dissections, and is highly experienced in coronary surgery, with a focus on arterial revascularisation.

Mr. Viviano is dedicated to minimally invasive surgery and takes an active role in the Northwest London Acute Aortic Dissection rota, providing emergency Type A Aortic Dissection repairs. As a mentor to future cardiothoracic surgeons within the London Deanery, his approachable nature and emphasis on effective communication create a supportive learning environment. His academic contributions include numerous peer-reviewed publications and national and international presentations.
