Dr Akira Wiberg

Dr Akira Wiberg is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Consultant Peripheral Nerve Surgeon who provides expert care in reconstructive techniques and nerve repair. Combining extensive clinical expertise with leading scientific research, he offers meticulous care for patients experiencing nerve compression, traumatic nerve injuries, and chronic pain conditions. Dr Wiberg is dedicated to restoring function and improving patient quality of life through precise, evidence-based surgical interventions delivered with a clear and reassuring approach.

Dr Wiberg completed his undergraduate medical education at the University of Oxford, where he was awarded a First-Class Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Medical Sciences before earning his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BM BCh) degree. He subsequently completed surgical training in plastic and reconstructive surgery, gaining his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery (FRCS Plast). Dr Wiberg also completed a Doctorate of Philosophy (DPhil) investigating the genetic mechanisms underlying carpal tunnel syndrome, alongside sub-specialist fellowship training in peripheral nerve surgery. He maintains active professional involvement in clinical research as a Senior Clinical Research Fellow.

In clinical practice, Dr Wiberg specialises in a broad range of reconstructive procedures, focusing particularly on conditions affecting the peripheral nervous system. His clinical scope includes the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, brachial plexus injuries, thoracic outlet syndrome, and various forms of nerve compression. In addition, Dr Wiberg offers specialised surgical management for neuropathic pain and nerve decompression procedures for the treatment of severe migraines and chronic headaches caused by irritated peripheral nerves.
