I have recently undergone a bilateral THR at The Fortius Clinic which was performed by Mr Evangelos Tsialogiannis. I cannot thank him enough, firstly for agreeing to undertake the procedure bilaterally and secondly for his considerable skill in undertaking the anterior minimally invasive procedure. The morning following surgery I was able to walk the entire length of the hospital corridor with just crutches and I have progressed steadily from that point on. I’ve suffered no real pain (in particular I had no nerve pain which I was warned could be a temporary complication of the anterior procedure) and the slight discomfort in the first few days was managed with just paracetamol and ibuprofen. The added benefits of the anterior procedure meant I was able to sleep well (on my side) as there were no restrictions or special requirements whatsoever. After 3 nights in hospital and 5 nights in a rehab clinic the physios described my gait as “perfect”. I was able to return home without the need for crutches – and was able to cope with the 33 stairs between my front door and bedroom! I’m now 3 weeks post surgery and feeling 95% back to normal. I can drive and have returned to light exercise - and friends I’ve met haven’t even been aware I’ve had surgery! I am absolutely delighted with the end result. My range of movement is so much more extensive and I have no pain. The added bonus of bilateral surgery is that there has been only one period of recovery time - and Mr Tsialogiannis has been a delight to deal with throughout!
