Areas of expertise
Sarum Urology is led by Mr. Brewin and Mr. Johnston, who are dedicated to providing high-quality, consultant-delivered, patient-centred care. The clinic offers comprehensive assessment and treatment for a wide range of urological conditions, with a particular focus on managing enlarged prostates and kidney stones.
Patients at Sarum Urology benefit from access to a variety of advanced procedures tailored to individual needs. Treatments for prostate enlargement include HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate), Aquablation, bipolar TURP (Transurethral Resection of the Prostate), Rezum, iTIND, and Urolift. HoLEP uses laser technology to remove the central part of the prostate, improving urinary flow, while Aquablation employs a robotically guided high-pressure water jet to remove tissue while preserving ejaculatory function. Bipolar TURP offers a modern surgical approach to reduce prostate size, and Rezum provides a minimally invasive option using steam therapy. iTIND utilises a temporary expandable device to relieve urinary symptoms by reshaping the prostatic urethra.
For patients with kidney stones, Sarum Urology offers treatments such as ureteroscopy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), and lithotripsy (ESWL), which use either shock waves or direct visualisation and instrumentation to break down and remove stones.
Additional procedures provided include precision point transperineal prostate biopsies, cystoscopy for bladder evaluation, and circumcision.
At Sarum Urology, the emphasis is on offering cutting-edge, evidence-based interventions with a personalised approach, ensuring patients receive effective and compassionate care tailored to their specific condition.

Really efficient, entire team very friendly and checked in regularly
could not find better staff if you tried, all appeared competent and professional.
Going to Salisbury (New Hall) - from Winchester - was less arduous than I imagined, despite registering originally at Sarum Road. The team supporting Mr Brewin were not only knowledgeable but kind and courteous. Mr Brewin's expertise was irreproachable, of course; he managed my ignorance of the procedure with calm senstivity, explaining clearly at each stage. The BPH op has been a dramatic success... giving me the relief of sleep whereas this had hitherto been limited to 45 minute spells.
The care I received from Mr Brewin and his team was absolutely outstanding. My family and I will be forever grateful to him for the lifesaving surgery he performed on me, and for quality of life which has been restored after a long period of illness.
First class treatment carried out promptly with staff who were reassuring at all times.
Massive thank you to Max for ensuring I was treated so promptly. This procedure has changed my life, as I was not in a good place mentally before procedure. Thank you to James for conducting the procedure and all the excellent care team, everyone was wonderful, special thank you to the food menu man, job well done Sir.

At Sarum Urology we are delighted to be able to provide a new procedure for patients with urinary symptoms secondary to an enlarged prostate or high bladder neck. The iTIND (insertion of Temporarily Implantable Nitinol device) procedure involves a brief general anaesthetic and endoscopic insertion of the device which aims to produce three new channels for urine to flow through the prostate. The procedure is performed as a day surgery, without a catheter. The device is then removed under local anaesthetic around 5 days later. Multiple research studies have been published showing good improvement in urinary symptoms. One of the main advantages is a very low risk of complications. If you are interested in discussing this innovative new technique please arrange an appointment.

In November 2024 Mr Brewin and Mr Johnston organised and delivered the inaugural South Central region HoLEP course. We maintain a significant interest in training other Urologists to do procedures which benefit all of our patients. With joint experience of more than 1000 HoLEP operations, which is an excellent procedure for those with larger prostates and/or a catheter, we felt well placed to organise a formal course to teach HoLEP to colleagues. Over 3 days a mixture of Senior Urology trainees and Consultants performed HoLEP procedures under careful supervision by Mr Johnston and Mr Brewin. They found the course very instructive and we are planning another coure in the Autumn of 2025. If you are interested in discussing HoLEP please arrange an appointment to see us.

Recently Mr Johnston and Mr Brewin have been part of the team joining the PREMISE trial. The PREMISE (Prostate Resection versus Minimally Invasive Surgery Evaluation) trial is a National Institute for Health Research study to investigate the comparative effectiveness of four different prostate surgeries - TURP, iTIND, Rezum and Urolift. Mr Johnston is principal investigator in Salisbury. If you are interested in discussing any of these surgeries please arrange an appointment.
