Dr. Biju Hameed

Dr. Biju Abdul Hameed is a paediatric neurologist with a rich background in clinical practice, research, and education. After earning his medical degree in India in 1994, Dr. Hameed pursued further training at the renowned Bristol Royal Hospital for Children in the United Kingdom. He became a consultant paediatric neurologist, first at a prominent hospital in 2016, and later at the prestigious Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.

During his time at Great Ormond Street Hospital, Dr. Hameed served as a consultant paediatric neurologist and neurodisability consultant. He also held the position of clinical lead for paediatric neurorehabilitation. Additionally, he served as a visiting consultant at Royal London Hospital and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in London, further expanding his expertise and influence.

Dr. Hameed's clinical interests primarily focus on complex movement disorders and neurorehabilitation in children. He specialises in managing conditions such as dystonia, tremor, ataxia, and spasticity in children, drawing upon years of experience in treating cerebral palsy, genetic movement disorders, brain trauma, and other acquired brain injuries in paediatric patients. He also has a keen interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in neuroscience.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Hameed is actively involved in research, with interests spanning neuroprotection, excitotoxicity, and the role of neuroscience in neurorehabilitation. His significant contributions to the field earned him a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Bristol in 2014, focusing on the role of steroid receptors and neurotrophins in experimental traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Hameed's dedication to advancing paediatric neurology extends beyond clinical practice and research. He serves on the Executive Board of the International Child Neurology Association and chairs the Education Committee. Additionally, he plays a pivotal role as a Program Director at the International Child Neurology Teaching Network (ICNTN) and serves as the Managing Editor for the Journal of the International Child Neurology Association. Dr. Hameed's expertise and insights have been sought after globally, as evidenced by his invitations to present at prestigious academic conferences worldwide, covering various topics in paediatric neurology, including cerebral palsy, movement disorders, traumatic brain injury, and neurorehabilitation.
