Dr William Glasson

Dr William Glasson is a highly respected Consultant Ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive eye care services in Balmoral, Queensland. With a dedication to improving patient outcomes, he specialises in general ophthalmology, cataract surgery, and refractive procedures. Dr Glasson is particularly recognised for his clinical focus on ocular oncology, oculoplastics, and lacrimal surgery, offering advanced medical and surgical management for complex eye conditions. His reassuring and professional approach ensures that patients receive personalised care tailored to their unique visual needs.

Dr Glasson initially commenced his professional career as an Optometrist before graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1980. He completed his residency and ophthalmic training in Brisbane before undertaking advanced postgraduate fellowship training in London, where he focused on ocular oncology, lid, and lacrimal pathology. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Additionally, he holds an Honorary Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Glasson has held numerous prominent leadership roles within the medical community, including serving as President of both the Australian Medical Association and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. He is also a Consultant Ophthalmologist to the Australian Army, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Deeply committed to humanitarian work, he has dedicated significant time to providing outreach ophthalmic services to indigenous communities in rural and remote Australia, as well as delivering essential eye care in East Timor. In recognition of his outstanding service to medicine and rural health, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia.
