About Dr Saqib Zafar

Dr Saqib Zafar is an Australian-trained consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a primary clinical focus on foot and ankle surgery, limb reconstruction and complex trauma. After obtaining his medical degree in 2002, he undertook extensive international training, including basic surgical training in the UK, before completing advanced subspecialty fellowships in Sydney and Canberra. His fellowship experience encompassed complex foot and ankle surgery, advanced arthroscopic techniques and open reconstructive procedures.

In 2022, Dr Zafar received the UK Joint Surgical Colleges Medal after achieving the highest score in the Trauma and Orthopaedic Specialty Board examination on his first attempt, recognising a notable academic achievement in his specialist training.

His clinical experience includes the management of complex diabetic foot conditions, Charcot deformities and other challenging foot deformities. During his time at Nepean Hospital in Sydney, he gained specialised experience treating diabetic foot complications and Charcot-related reconstruction, further developing his expertise in complex limb preservation and reconstruction.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Zafar contributes to postgraduate surgical education and professional development. He serves as Director of Training for the AOA South Side Training Program and holds an honorary academic appointment at the Australian National University, supporting the education and training of future orthopaedic surgeons.
