Dr David Duckworth

Dr David Duckworth is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder and elbow surgery, with expertise in arthroscopic, reconstructive, replacement, and trauma procedures. He is particularly recognised for his work in shoulder replacement surgery and the management of complex fractures, including clavicle and shoulder injuries. Known for his relaxed and professional approach, Dr Duckworth is committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for his patients through personalised, evidence-based care.

Born and educated in Sydney, Dr Duckworth attended University of New South Wales, where he completed his medical degree in 1986. He subsequently undertook specialist orthopaedic training through the Sydney Orthopaedic Training Programme and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1996.

Following his orthopaedic training, Dr Duckworth completed an advanced fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery with Professor Frederick A. Matsen III at the University of Washington in 1996–1997. Professor Matsen is internationally recognised as a pioneer in shoulder replacement surgery, and this fellowship provided Dr Duckworth with advanced expertise in complex shoulder reconstruction and joint replacement techniques.

Since returning to Australia in 1998, Dr Duckworth has established a busy specialist practice and currently consults and operates at Norwest Private Hospital and Sydney Adventist Hospital. He also serves as a Visiting Surgeon and Head of the Orthopaedic Department at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, where he provides shoulder and elbow trauma services and has a particular interest in the reconstruction of complex shoulder fractures.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Duckworth is actively involved in orthopaedic research. His current research interests include clavicle fractures, radial head fractures, and advancements in shoulder replacement surgery.
