Dr Ruy Da Assuncao

Dr Ruy da Assuncao is an Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon with extensive international experience in lower limb reconstruction, joint replacement and complex orthopaedic trauma surgery. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, he graduated in medicine from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1997 before relocating to the United Kingdom in 1998 to continue his surgical training.

During his early postgraduate years, Dr da Assuncao gained broad experience across orthopaedics, trauma, emergency medicine, general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. He was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2001 and commenced Specialist Orthopaedic Training within the Wessex Deanery in Southern England in 2003. Following comprehensive training across major orthopaedic centres, he achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2008.

He subsequently completed several prestigious international fellowships, including the AO/OTA Trauma Fellowship at Harborview Medical Center, the Lower Limb Reconstruction and Arthroplasty Fellowship in Sydney, and the Perth Trauma Fellowship at Royal Perth Hospital. He later undertook advanced hip and knee reconstruction fellowship training at the internationally recognised Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, focusing on complex primary and revision hip and knee surgery, partial knee replacement and musculoskeletal infection management.

Dr da Assuncao was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at University Hospitals Sussex in 2011, where he developed expertise in complex arthroplasty, orthopaedic trauma and knee preservation surgery. Since relocating permanently to Australia in 2020, he has established Revolution Orthopaedics and co-founded The Hills Orthopaedics, providing comprehensive, patient-centred orthopaedic care with a modern and tailored approach.
