Dr Robert Briggs

Dr Robert Briggs is a highly regarded Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon based in Melbourne, Australia. Specialising in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, he is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centred care with a reassuring and approachable manner. Dr Briggs has a particular clinical focus on otology and neurotology, helping patients manage complex ear and hearing-related conditions. Dr Briggs completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Melbourne in 1981. He went on to complete his specialist training in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery in Melbourne, qualifying in 1989. Following this, he undertook three years of advanced clinical fellowship training at leading international institutions in the United States and the United Kingdom, focusing on advanced otology and neurotology. He holds fellowships with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Briggs is actively involved in medical research and education. He holds an academic appointment as a Clinical Professor in the departments of surgery and otolaryngology at the University of Melbourne. His research interests include cochlear implant electrode development and safety, auditory brainstem implantation, and the management of neurofibromatosis type 2. He also serves as the Medical Director of a major public cochlear implant clinic, where he oversees the delivery of advanced hearing services and the implementation of innovative surgical techniques.
