Mr Rhys Filgate

Mr Rhys Filgate is a highly qualified Specialist General Surgeon and Colorectal Surgeon who provides comprehensive surgical care. He has a strong clinical focus on minimally invasive and robotic colorectal surgery, particularly for patients managing colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. Dedicated to delivering patient-centred care, Mr Filgate works collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure that individuals facing complex diagnoses receive optimum, well-coordinated treatment pathways.

Mr Filgate completed his Bachelor of Medical Science and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with first-class honours at the University of Tasmania in 2007. Following his initial internship and residency in New South Wales, he relocated to Western Australia to undertake advanced training, achieving his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in early 2015. He was subsequently selected for the highly competitive post-fellowship training programme with the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand. This prestigious two-year programme included intensive specialist training in laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery in Sydney, followed by a year focused on recurrent and locally advanced rectal cancer, as well as pelvic floor conditions, at a major tertiary referral centre in Auckland.

In addition to his sub-specialist expertise in recurrent and advanced pelvic cancers, Mr Filgate manages a broad spectrum of colorectal and general surgical conditions. His clinical practice encompasses proctology and pelvic floor surgery, alongside the management of common general surgical issues such as hernias, gallstones, and lipomas. By combining advanced surgical techniques with a reassuring and professional approach, he aims to achieve the best possible outcomes and support his patients through every stage of their surgical journey.
