Dr. Qiuye Cheng is a Sydney-based upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgeon known for his expertise in minimally invasive surgery. He specialises in metabolic and weight loss surgical treatments, as well as the management of upper gastrointestinal cancers and other non-cancer conditions. Dr. Cheng is also proficient in treating gallbladder diseases, complex hernias, and performing endoscopy. He leads the team at St. George Obesity Surgery and hold consults through rooms at St. George Private Hospital, Miranda and Tamworth. Dr Cheng operates at St George Private, Kareena, East Sydney Private and Tamara Private Hospitals.
Having lived in China, Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, and Singapore, Dr. Cheng's multicultural background informs his compassionate and inclusive approach to patient care. He moved to Australia for higher education, earning his medical degree from The University of Sydney in 2010. Furthering his expertise, he completed a Masters of Surgery in upper gastrointestinal surgery from the same institution in 2016. Dr. Cheng completed his accredited surgical training at Westmead Hospital and obtained his Surgical Fellowship with The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2018. He then pursued four years of advanced post-fellowship training in upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery at high-volume centres like St. George Hospital in Sydney and St. Vincent Hospital in Melbourne.
Dr. Cheng is passionate about medical education and research, holding lecturer positions at The University of Sydney and the University of Western Sydney. He has made significant contributions to the field through numerous publications in bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgery. As an active member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders and the Australia and New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society, Dr. Cheng regularly presents at national and international conferences, staying at the forefront of advancements in his field.
