Dr Phoebe Thwaites

Dr Phoebe Thwaites is a highly accomplished Consultant Gastroenterologist who provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients experiencing a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions. Known for her patient-centred and holistic approach, she is dedicated to helping individuals manage both acute and chronic digestive health issues. Dr Thwaites strives to deliver personalised and reassuring support, ensuring that each patient feels heard and well-informed throughout their treatment journey.

Her clinical practice encompasses general luminal gastroenterology, with a particular interest in disorders of gut-brain interaction, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Dr Thwaites is also highly experienced in managing coeliac disease, iron deficiency, and liver diseases, as well as performing bowel cancer screening. Her clinical approach is deeply informed by her extensive research background, allowing her to integrate the latest scientific advancements into daily patient care.

Dr Thwaites completed her medical training with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours. Committed to academic excellence and professional development, she also holds a Graduate Certificate of Executive Leadership and completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Monash University, where her doctoral research investigated the physiology of the gastrointestinal tract using an innovative ingestible gas-sensing capsule.
