Dr Nathan Schaefer

Dr Nathan Schaefer is a highly qualified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon who specialises in skin cancer excision and reconstruction. He is dedicated to providing patient-focused, compassionate care, ensuring that individuals receive personalised treatment plans tailored to their unique clinical needs. With a strong focus on restoring both form and function, Dr Schaefer works closely with patients to achieve optimal aesthetic and reconstructive outcomes following complex surgical procedures.

Dr Schaefer completed his undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Exercise Science at Griffith University, where he was awarded the Exercise Science Medal. He then went on to obtain his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with First Class Honours from the same institution in 2011, receiving the prestigious University Medal and multiple awards for academic excellence. He completed his specialist training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, achieving his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2021. Dr Schaefer is also an active member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and has previously served on the Australian Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

In his clinical practice, Dr Schaefer focuses extensively on the management of skin cancers, including basal cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas, and melanomas. He regularly performs complex head and neck reconstructions, as well as reconstructive procedures following Mohs micrographic surgery in collaboration with local Dermatologists. Beyond his clinical work, Dr Schaefer is a dedicated researcher who has published numerous papers and presented his findings both nationally and internationally. He is also deeply passionate about raising awareness and funds for melanoma research, having successfully led charity initiatives that have broken world records to support cancer research units.
