He conducts research and speaks at national and international conferences. He initiated one of Australia's early endoscopic training centres for gynaecologists and is part of the SWEC team that trains specialist surgeons. With over 50 peer-reviewed medical journal publications and book chapters, he is recognised for his expertise as an accredited Advanced Level Endoscopic Surgeon and has been an invited surgeon at many hospitals in Australia and Asia.
Previously, A/Prof Cooper was a Board Member of the Australian Gynaecological Endoscopy Society and a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy. He served as an advisor to the World Health Organisation on research and training in gynaecological endoscopic surgery and has performed over 6,500 advanced laparoscopic procedures, including excision of endometriosis, hysterectomy, colposuspension, pelvic floor reconstruction, and lymph node dissection.
A/Prof Cooper’s multidisciplinary background allows him to provide patient-centred, continuous, holistic and comprehensive care that meets individual patient needs without the necessity of transitioning between specialists. This continuity of care helps patients cope better with the challenges of endometriosis and fertility treatment by reducing stress and eliminating waiting times.

A/Prof Michael Cooper consistently displays a professional and knowledgeable approach with patients. He provides clear explanations of conditions and surgical options, leading many to feel reassured and confident in his expertise and care. Some patients mention feeling unheard, wishing for a more comprehensive or individualised discussion regarding their specific needs or previous experience. His clinical focus frequently includes endometriosis, its pain management, and advanced laparoscopic hysterectomy procedures.
Supportive, thorough, and current knowledge of research around endometriosis. Gave several options for treatment approaches and was transparent about surgical recovery.
I felt that I was in the safe hands of an expert at the top of his field and I would recommend Prof Cooper to women in my situation. My surgery and recovery went smoothly thanks to Prof Cooper. My only critical feedback is that I did feel that Prof Cooper was only focused on the Endometriosis and that some of his post-surgery advice didn't take into account the realities of everyday life. Eg. getting pregnant isn't a real solution for endometriosis for a young person in a cost-of-living crisis, and the pill, while effective for endo, can cause a raft of other symptoms. I understand that these are the options but I would have appreciated some acknowledgement that they are deeply imperfect.
Dr Cooper was very informative, professional and addressed each of my concerns comprehensively
Professor Cooper is very thorough, professional and precise. Don’t be put off by his silence when you first sit down. He reads your portfolio thoroughly before he begins. His assistant, Kathy, is first point of contact on phone and on arrival. She has a beautiful approach. She is very sincere, calming and knowledgeable. Finding a great gynaecologist is very daunting. I’m so thankful I found Prof Michael Cooper.
Dr Cooper exceeded my expectations, not only did he put my nerves at ease instantly but his professionalism and knowledge made me feel like I was in the right place. 10/10

I appreciate that your first agenda was to greet us and introduce yourself. When you were reviewing and writing my medical history I was a bit confused why you havent pre read before hand but it made more sense to do it while we are there so you can also confirm with me while reviewing it.

The summary is that my complication rate is well within and probably under the expected rate for the type of surgery I perform. I provide the questions I posed to Open AI, the data submitted and the responses. I questioned the initial comments about ureteric injury and the final version is very comforting to me.…
