Dr Matthew Sherlock

Dr Matthew Sherlock is a highly qualified Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in sports injuries, trauma, and joint replacement of the shoulder and elbow. With a patient-centred approach, he is dedicated to achieving optimal outcomes and facilitating faster recovery times. Dr Sherlock has a particular clinical interest in utilising minimally invasive or arthroscopic "keyhole" techniques, which are designed to minimise post-operative discomfort and support a smoother rehabilitation process for his patients.

Dr Sherlock graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Sydney. He completed his specialist orthopaedic training in Sydney under the Australian Orthopaedic Training Programme. To further refine his expertise, he undertook eighteen months of advanced post-fellowship training, completing fellowships in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and knee in Canberra, as well as serving as the Arthroscopy Fellow at the University of Alberta in Canada. Additionally, he gained valuable international experience collaborating with pioneering Surgeons in modern shoulder joint replacement in Nice and Lyon, France.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Sherlock is deeply committed to medical education and research. He has published numerous research papers in peer-reviewed journals and is actively involved in training the next generation of medical students and Orthopaedic Registrars. He holds the responsibility of organising the annual in-training examination for Advanced Trainees of the Australian Orthopaedic Association and is an accredited provider of continuing orthopaedic education for General Practitioners. Dr Sherlock is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, and he maintains active membership with the Australian Medical Association.
