Dr Mathew Rodrigues

Dr Mathew Rodrigues is a highly qualified Consultant Physician specialising in General (Internal) Medicine, as well as Respiratory and Sleep Medicine. Based in Melbourne, he provides comprehensive care for patients experiencing a wide range of complex multi-system disorders, acute medical conditions, and chronic illnesses. With a patient-centred approach, Dr Rodrigues focuses on delivering thorough diagnostic evaluations and personalised treatment plans to improve his patients' overall health and well-being.

In his clinical practice, Dr Rodrigues has a particular interest in managing obstructive airway diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). His expertise also extends to the investigation and management of sleep-disordered breathing, interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary infections, and lung cancer screening. By integrating his knowledge of internal medicine with respiratory and sleep diagnostics, he is able to address complex cardiopulmonary issues and co-ordinate holistic care for individuals with overlapping medical needs.

Dr Rodrigues completed his primary medical education, obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and his Doctor of Medicine (MD) between 1987 and 2002. He completed his initial training at tertiary multispeciality hospitals in India and Singapore before moving to Australia, where he undertook advanced specialist physician training and a senior registrarship in Victoria. He subsequently obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2007 and completed a clinical fellowship at a major teaching hospital in Melbourne. Dr Rodrigues is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and holds active memberships with the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, the Australasian Sleep Association, and the Australian Medical Association. He also contributes to the education of future medical professionals as a Clinical Faculty Academic for a prominent local university.
