Dr Karan Rao

Dr. Karan Rao is an accomplished adult cardiologist with a focus on interventional and structural heart disease. He brings expertise in all areas of adult cardiology, including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, heart rhythm disorders, heart failure, cardiovascular imaging, and preventative cardiology. Dr. Rao is committed to delivering evidence-based medical care and is known for providing compassionate personalised consultations to his patients.

Dr. Rao completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of New South Wales, where he graduated with Distinction in 2014. He furthered his qualifications by completing a Masters in Public Health in 2015. Dr. Rao then pursued advanced training in Cardiology at Westmead Hospital in Sydney, achieving recognition as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2022.

Currently, Dr. Rao serves as an interventional research fellow at Royal North Shore Hospital and is concurrently pursuing a PhD with the University of Sydney, focusing on structural and interventional cardiology. His research efforts are supported by prestigious grants, including the NHMRC Postgraduate PhD Scholarship and the Heart Research Australia PhD grant. His research work, which centres on optimising transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), has been published and presented internationally. His work was also recognised with the ANZET Early Career Research Prize in 2024.
