Dr John Cartmill

Dr John Cartmill is a highly accomplished General Surgeon and Colorectal Surgeon who is dedicated to providing exceptional, patient-centred care. With a primary clinical focus on colorectal health, he specialises in advanced laparoscopic procedures, colonoscopy, and endoscopy. Dr Cartmill is particularly interested in utilising innovative medical technologies and minimally invasive techniques, such as natural orifice specimen extraction (NOSE) laparoscopic surgery, to improve patient outcomes and reduce recovery times. His reassuring and collaborative approach ensures that patients feel supported and well-informed throughout their treatment journey.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Cartmill is a distinguished academic and researcher who holds prominent roles as a Professor of Surgery and Associate Dean. He is deeply committed to medical education, surgical training, and the development of professional skills for the next generation of Surgeons and Medical Practitioners. His research interests span a wide range of areas, including patient safety, quality improvement, medical communication, and the integration of technology in surgical learning. Dr Cartmill completed his medical education at the University of Sydney, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (Medical) in 1980, followed by a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1983. He furthered his academic pursuits at the same institution, obtaining a Master of Medicine in 1988. To refine his surgical expertise, he undertook advanced post-fellowship training in colorectal surgery at a world-renowned international clinic. Dr Cartmill is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), reflecting his adherence to the highest standards of surgical practice and professional conduct.
