Dr Railya Mousina

Dr Railya Mousina is an Australian-trained Specialist Breast and General Surgeon currently seeing private patients at Wales Medical Centre, Strathfield Private Hospital, and Prince of Wales Private Hospital.

She completed her Bachelor of Medical Science degree at the University of New South Wales in 2003, followed by her medical degree at the University of Sydney in 2008. She then completed her junior doctor training at the Prince of Wales Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital, followed by her specialist training in general surgery from 2012. She was awarded her Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2017.

In 2018, Dr Mousina served as Surgical Superintendent at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA), coordinating the Sydney Central Surgical network and contributing to committees addressing patient safety and workforce culture. Simultaneously, she worked in the breast unit at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse where she gained expertise in oncoplastic breast surgery and reconstruction.

In 2019, Dr Mousina undertook postgraduate fellowship training in breast surgery recognised by the Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand. During this time, she trained at Mater Hospital, Hornsby Hospital, Northern Beaches Hospital and the Royal North Shore Hospital. She later completed further melanoma fellowship training at the Melanoma Institute of Australia.

Dr Mousina has specialist expertise in benign breast diseases, imaging abnormalities, breast cancer diagnosis and management, breast conserving surgery, nipple and skin sparing mastectomy, cancer-related implant reconstruction and removal, gallbladder removal, skin lesion removal, inguinal and abdominal hernia repair, melanoma management, abdominal laparoscopy and emergency operations.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr Mousina serves as a clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney's Central Clinical School. She mentors general surgical registrars in breast and general surgery.
