About Dr Rob Gandy

Dr Robert Gandy is a highly specialised General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon based in Sydney. Originally from the UK, where he qualified from the University of Leeds in 2002, he moved to Australia in 2006. Since being awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015, he has established a high-volume practice specialising in complex surgical oncology and metabolic health. He is a strong advocate for minimally invasive techniques, performing more than 90% of his procedures using laparoscopic or robotic-assisted surgery.

His clinical focus is centred on personalised care for patients with complex abdominal diseases. What began as a planned two-year sabbatical in Australia with his wife became a permanent move, with his early exposure to complex abdominal surgery reinforcing his decision to build his surgical career in the country.

Dr Gandy is also experienced in surgical weight management, providing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass procedures for patients seeking effective, long-term approaches to metabolic health. He works across major weight-loss surgery centres in New South Wales, combining bariatric surgery with his broader expertise in complex abdominal conditions.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Gandy contributes to surgical education as a Clinical Lecturer at the University of New South Wales. During his academic work, he also contributed to laboratory research at the Kolling Institute investigating approaches to the early identification of pancreatic cancer. He remains actively involved in pancreatic surgery research and regularly publishes in leading medical journals, with a focus on improving outcomes in complex abdominal oncology.
