Dr Hugh Porter

Dr. Hugh Porter is an experienced Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, offering exceptional care to the women of Sydney's North Shore and Northern Beaches regions. He is affiliated with leading hospitals, including the Mater Hospital, North Shore Private Hospital, and the Northern Beaches Hospital.

Dr. Porter earned his medical degree at the University of Notre Dame Sydney, where he graduated with honours, earning the prestigious "communication and clinical skills" prize and the Vice Chancellor's "academic excellence" award. His obstetric training involved three years at Royal North Shore Hospital, followed by specialised obstetric training at Westmead. He further developed his skills during his gynaecology fellowship at St Vincent's Hospital and the Northern Beaches Hospital.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Porter is actively involved in medical education. He holds academic positions at the University of Notre Dame and Macquarie University. His dedication to teaching earned him the "Excellence in teaching" award from the Northern Beaches Hospital Obstetrics and Gynaecology department in 2022.

Dr. Porter's commitment to advancing the field is shown in his research pursuits. He has a keen interest in obstetric care and recently published a paper in the international journal "Prenatal Diagnosis" in 2022, focusing on EXIT procedures.

Dr. Porter's expertise spans a wide range of special interests, including low and high-risk pregnancies, natural births, water births, Calmbirth®, VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean section), elective caesarean sections, maternal-assisted caesarean sections, induction of labour, and twin births (vaginal or caesarean). Furthermore, he is skilled as a laparoscopic surgeon and colposcopist.
