To further expand his expertise, he was awarded a travelling scholarship, which allowed him to spend six months gaining advanced clinical experience in the United States. Dr McKay is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and holds active memberships with the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Throughout his career, Dr McKay has maintained a strong commitment to clinical excellence and education. He has served as a Head of Department and has dedicated significant time to teaching and training medical students, registrar eye surgeons, nursing staff, and optometrists. In addition to his clinical work, he has presented numerous workshops and papers at national and state ophthalmology meetings. Dr McKay also serves as a commissioned officer in the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
