Dr William Maclean

Dr William Maclean is a Consultant General Surgeon and Consultant Colorectal Surgeon who delivers comprehensive care for a wide range of general surgical and abdominal conditions. Specialising in modern surgical techniques, he is dedicated to providing reassuring, patient-centred care tailored to individual patient needs. His clinical practice focuses on ensuring patient safety, clear communication, and smooth recovery through evidence-based surgical methods.

Dr Maclean possesses sub-speciality expertise in colorectal surgery and advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques. His primary areas of clinical interest include robotic-assisted colorectal surgery, keyhole surgery, and enhanced recovery protocols designed to optimise post-operative healing. He performs a broad range of procedures, including open surgery, laparotomy, hernia repair, appendicectomy, and pilonidal sinus surgery. Furthermore, Dr Maclean carries out diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy procedures, as well as specialist proctology treatments for conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures, and anal fistulas.

Dr Maclean completed his undergraduate medical degree (MB ChB) at Bristol University Medical School and subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) postgraduate degree. He completed his early surgical training within the Wessex deanery before undertaking higher registrar training in general and colorectal surgery, achieving his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in October 2023. To further advance his expertise in minimally invasive techniques, he completed a specialist Laparoscopic Fellowship. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS).
