Dr. Waleed Mohammed is a consultant clinical oncologist with a diverse background in genetics, bio-science, and clinical medicine.
Dr. Mohammed initially trained as a bio-scientist, specialising in genetics at the University of Cambridge. He also completed an MSc in biology at the University of Oxford. During this phase of his career, he focused on research related to genetics and early mouse embryo development. He also conducted research on lysosomal storage disorders and prion diseases, with the goal of developing drug therapy.
After his work in genetics, he entered the pharmaceutical industry, working at locations such as Oxford Science Park and the MRC Prion Unit at Queen Square, University College London.
Dr. Mohammed later re-trained as a medic through the Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine, specialising in clinical oncology. He underwent specialist registrar training at prestigious institutions, including Imperial College NHS Trust, The Royal Marsden Hospital, and The Royal Sussex County Hospital. He became a consultant clinical oncologist at Charing Cross Hospital in 2020. During this time, he introduced, developed, and established the Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) radiotherapy service.
Dr. Mohammed is a member of The Royal College of Physicians (London) and a Fellow of The Royal College of Radiologists, with recognition in the form of the New Fellows Speaker award.
His clinical interests span primary and secondary thoracic cancers (such as NSCLC, SCLC, LCNET, mesothelioma, and thymic cancers) as well as primary and secondary CNS (brain and spine) cancers (including LGG, HGG, meningioma, ependymoma, medulloblastoma, pituitary tumours, pineal tumours, and intra-cranial germ cell tumours). He prescribes chemotherapy, immunotherapy and oral TKIs. In addition, he delivers radiotherapy (including SRS, Gamma Knife and SABR/SBRT), Optune Therapy and he is MR-Linac trained.
