Mr Venkatadri Sampat

Mr Venkatadri Sampat is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with specialist expertise in medical retina conditions, complex cataract surgery and advanced retinal laser/ intravitreal injection treatments. He completed his specialist registrar training in the West Midlands before undertaking a prestigious medical retina fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. Following this, he was appointed Consultant Ophthalmologist at Kettering General Hospital, where he continues to play a leading role in retinal services.

Mr Sampat is currently the Deputy clinical lead for ophthalmology, University Hospitals of Northamptonshire, an expert in managing macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and was instrumental in establishing the hospital’s macular degeneration service, helping restore and preserve sight for many patients. His team has been nominated three times for the National Macular Society Clinical Excellence Award in recognition of the quality of care delivered. He also leads the retinopathy of prematurity service, providing specialist diagnosis and treatment for premature infants with retinal disease, with the service consistently achieving outstanding national performance standards. He is privileged to be a recipient of the King's Award Badge from the Lord Lieutenent, Northamptonshire for community service.

His clinical interests include cataract surgery, including multifocal intraocular lens implantation, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal laser procedures, glaucoma laser treatments and minor eyelid surgery. He is also trained in telescopic lens implantation (IOLVIP) for selected patients with dry macular degeneration.

In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Sampat is an experienced microsurgical trainer and faculty member for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London.
