Mr Unnikrishnan Ramkumar

Mr Unnikrishnan Ramkumar is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, specialising in hip and knee surgery as well as complex trauma involving the upper and lower limbs.

He qualified in medicine and completed his postgraduate training in Orthopaedics in India before moving to the UK, where he obtained his primary FRCS in 2002. He undertook registrar training across multiple orthopaedic and trauma subspecialties, including a DePuy Knee Fellowship at Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH), Harlow, where he developed advanced skills in hip and knee replacement surgery. He completed his specialist training and was awarded FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 2009.

Mr Ramkumar has been working at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow over the last 20 years.He has been performing a high volume of hip and knee replacement procedures at PAH since 2007. He has also been working at Rivers Hospital, Sawbrideworth from 2018. He has been also performing partial knee replacements from 2022. He also specialises in revision total knee replacement. Over these years he has performed over 4000 joint replacements. With his technical expertise he is known to perform sugeries in a timely efficient manner, helping  patients attain a quicker recovery. In addition to elective joint surgery, he also performs surgeries on complex trauma cases involving both upper and lower limbs and has dedicated NHS operating lists for complex trauma.The high volume of joint replacments he performs can be confirmed at the National joint registry website. Mr Ramkumar believes in patient centered approach in his medical practice. He listens to patients and their symptoms and gives

much importance to this while making decisions on surgical management. With over 30 years of experience he understands better when not to perform surgery. He is also known to put patients at ease and is well regarded by patients as he keeps conversations at a level where patients can easily understand.

His clinical interests include hip and knee pathology, primary hip and knee replacement surgery, partial knee replacement, revision total knee replacement, knee arthroscopy, and the management of upper and lower limb trauma. He sees patients aged 16 years and over.
