Dr. Syed Gardezi

Dr Syed Gardezi is a board-certified consultant cardiologist based at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals.

His specialist interests are:

• Heart failure,
• Cardiomyopathy,
• Cardiac MRI,
• Advanced heart failure,
• Cardiac Transplant,
• Adult Congenital Heart disease,
• Pulmonary Hypertension
• Cardiovascular disease (CVD) including the diagnosis, management, and primary and secondary prevention

He gained his medical degree from the University of Peshawar in 2004 and undertook sub-specialty training at the North West London Deanery. During this time, he undertook rotations at leading tertiary cadrio-thoracic centres, including the Royal Brompton Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare Trust & Oxford Univerisity Hospitals. He also earned his membership of the Royal College of Physicians, Ireland (MRCPI) and membership of the Royal College of Physicians, London (MRCPUK). His research fellowship was undertaken at the Radcliffe department of medicine at the University of Oxford, where his work focused on the clinical epidemiology of atrial fibrillation in the elderly and its relationship with valvular heart disease. His research has been published in a number of prestigious peer-reviewed journals, and he has presented his work widely.

Dr Gardezi is passionate about medical education and has taught both undergraduate and post graduate medical students. He has trained in teaching and has undertaken a number of courses at the University of Oxford and has been awarded 'SEDA-PDR Supporting Learning award' by Oxford Learning Institute. Furthermore, he has gained his membership of the Academy of Medical Educators (MAcadMEd).

Over the course of his career, Dr Gardezi has been awarded an academic travel grant in 2017 from Wolfson College, University of Oxford as well as an ESC educational grant in 2018. He actively teaches medical professionals and has taught the Cardiology SpRs via the 'Covid-19 Video teaching' webinar as well as higher specialty training SpRs on training days by Health Education England and the Royal College of Physicians.

He is multilingual and speaks English, Urdu, and Hindi.
