Dr Subhabrata Mitra

Dr Subhabrata Mitra is a highly distinguished Consultant Neonatologist and Paediatrician who specialises in neonatal care and perinatal neurology. He is dedicated to delivering reassuring, compassionate, and comprehensive care to newborn infants and their families. His clinical focus encompasses the expert diagnosis, monitoring, and management of complex neonatal health conditions, with a primary emphasis on protecting and supporting the developing infant brain during the most critical early stages of life.

Dr Mitra earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Calcutta in 1997, where he also completed his initial postgraduate qualification in Paediatrics. He subsequently undertook higher specialist national grid training in Paediatrics and Neonatal Medicine in Bristol, Cambridge, and London. Furthering his academic and research expertise, he completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at University College London investigating advanced optical monitoring in neonatal brain injury, alongside earning a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Bedfordshire. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Throughout his medical career, Dr Mitra has established notable expertise in neonatal neurology, neonatal encephalopathy, and perinatal brain injury. He leads pioneering clinical neuroscience research dedicated to developing real-time biomarkers and advanced optical neuromonitoring tools to identify and manage neonatal seizures and brain injury at the earliest possible stage. His work integrates advanced neuroimaging and physiological monitoring to safeguard neurological function and improve long-term developmental outcomes for vulnerable newborns.

Dr Mitra collaborates closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams, engineers, and scientists to translate cutting-edge medical technologies into practical bedside care. His empathetic and professional approach ensures that parents receive clear explanations, guidance, and reassuring support during every step of their baby's care journey.
