About Professor Steven Marwaha

Steven has been a Consultant Psychiatrist for over 20 years and has experience of the assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental disorders.

He studied Medicine at the University of Cambridge and then University College London Medical School before qualifying as a Doctor in 1996. He trained in Psychiatry in North London, and after a period of working around England and also Germany (for the British army) he took up substantive academic and NHS Consultant positions in 2009 in the Midlands. He has been a Professor of Psychiatry in Birmingham since 2018.

Qualifications

Steven Marwaha is a clinical academic Psychiatrist, meaning he has expertise in clinical psychiatry and research in psychiatry. Steven read Medicine and Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cambridge, and qualified as a medical doctor at University College London (UCL) completing his post graduate Psychiatry training there. He was a Clinical Lecturer in Social and Community Psychiatry at UCL before moving to be a Senior Lecturer and then Reader at the University of Warwick. He took up his current post in 2018.

As a Consultant Psychiatrist he is the director of the Centre for Advanced Learning in Mood Disorders Management in Birmingham. He also leads a programme of research work focussed on depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and ADHD. He is a commisioner of the charity Bipolar UK and contributes to their reports and webpages.
