About Dr. Sanjay Bhandari

Outstanding Patient Experience Recognition (2026) – Doctify

Dr Sanjay Bhandari is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist specialising in the assessment and treatment of chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness and blackouts, high blood pressure, cholesterol problems and heart rhythm disorders.

His approach is to provide patients with clear answers and a straightforward plan. Where appropriate, an ECG and echocardiogram can often be performed at the same appointment, allowing many patients to have their symptoms assessed and their next steps explained without the need for multiple separate visits.

Dr Bhandari is a Consultant Cardiologist at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester, and sees private patients at Spire Nottingham Hospital. He treats a broad range of heart conditions, including coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation and other heart rhythm problems, heart valve disease, cardiomyopathy and heart failure.

He has particular expertise in advanced cardiac imaging and reports over 400
cardiac MRI studies
and performs/reports over 400 advanced echocardiography studies each year. He holds EACVI Level 3 accreditation in cardiac MRI and British Society of Echocardiography accreditation in both transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography. Advanced investigations, including cardiac MRI, can be arranged when appropriate.

Common reasons to see Dr Bhandari

  • Chest pain or concerns about coronary artery disease
  • Palpitations, an irregular heartbeat or suspected atrial fibrillation
  • Breathlessness or reduced exercise tolerance
  • Dizziness, fainting or blackouts
  • High blood pressure or cholesterol concerns
  • Heart valve disease or a heart murmur
  • Cardiomyopathy or heart failure
  • An abnormal ECG or echocardiogram
  • A second opinion about a heart condition or cardiac investigation

Dr Bhandari graduated from the University of Leicester Medical School with First-Class
Honours
and was awarded the John MacVicar Prize. He subsequently completed a British Heart Foundation-funded PhD in cardiovascular medicine. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leicester and a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC).

Patients consistently describe Dr Bhandari as clear, thorough and reassuring. He takes time to listen to patients' concerns, explain test results in straightforward language and ensure they understand their diagnosis, treatment options and what happens next.

His priority is for patients to leave their consultation feeling listened to, reassured where appropriate, and with a clear understanding of their heart health and what happens next.

Skill Endorsements

Dr Sanjay Bhandari is an imaging cardiologist par excellence. He is very well trained and an excellent colleague to work with For example, his Stress Cardiac MRI reports are spot on, especially for a referring interventional cardiologist- tells me exactly what I want to know to cater the correct management strategy to the patient. His echo skills are mazing and again, TOE reports from a structural intervention perspective are spot on - every time. His interaction with patients is exemplary as well.
