Dr. Sanjay Bhandari

Dr Sanjay Bhandari is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer based at Glenfield Hospital, part of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and also sees private patients at Spire Nottingham Hospital.

He specialises in the assessment of chest pain, palpitations, breathlessness, dizziness and blackouts, offering a clear and efficient pathway to diagnosis and treatment. His practice focuses on providing timely access to heart investigations and clear answers, helping patients gain reassurance and clarity as quickly as possible.

Dr Bhandari has particular expertise in advanced cardiac imaging, including echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) and cardiac MRI. With EACVI Level 3 accreditation in cardiac MRI and full BSE accreditation in transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, he provides highly accurate assessment of heart structure, function and valve disease. He performs over 400 cardiac MRI scans and 400 advanced echocardiography studies each year, ensuring extensive experience in detailed cardiac evaluation.

He diagnoses and manages a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease, valve disease, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, high blood pressure and cholesterol disorders, as well as cardiovascular risk assessment and prevention.

Dr Bhandari is known for providing clear explanations, thorough assessments and a reassuring approach, ensuring patients feel informed, supported and confident in their care. He offers a streamlined pathway from consultation to diagnosis, with access to investigations such as ECG, echocardiography, ambulatory monitoring and cardiac MRI where appropriate.

He graduated with First-Class Honours from Leicester Medical School, completing an Intercalated BSc (Hons) before achieving an MRes (Hons) and a PhD funded by a British Heart Foundation fellowship. He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and has published widely in leading international cardiology journals. Alongside his clinical work, he teaches and trains future cardiologists as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leicester.
