Dr Samantha Hettige

Dr Samantha Hettige is an accomplished Consultant Neurosurgeon with specialised expertise in paediatric and adult neurosurgery. She delivers compassionate, highly skilled care to patients presenting with complex neurological and spinal conditions. Known for her patient-centred approach and commitment to clinical excellence, Dr Hettige works closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure each patient receives personalised assessment, surgical intervention, and comprehensive post-operative care tailored to their unique medical needs.

Dr Hettige’s clinical practice encompasses a broad range of neurosurgical conditions, with a primary focus on paediatric neurosurgery and paediatric neuro-oncology. She possesses extensive expertise in the surgical management of paediatric brain tumours, hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and congenital spinal malformations. Her technical proficiency includes advanced procedures such as endoscopic third ventriculostomy, shunt insertions and revisions, endoscopic brain tumour debulking, complex paediatric spinal surgery, and emergency neurotrauma management. In addition to her paediatric work, Dr Hettige evaluates and treats adult general neurosurgical and spinal conditions, maintaining a focus on achieving optimal surgical outcomes and patient safety.

Dr Hettige completed her pre-clinical medical training at Trinity College, Cambridge, before earning her clinical medical degree from the University of Oxford in 2001. She went on to complete specialist surgical training in neurosurgery, gaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons. She actively contributes to surgical education and standards as an examiner on the FRCS panel.
