About Dr. Ruchit Sood

Dr Ruchit Sood is a consultant gastroenterologist practising at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital, Spire Leeds Hospital and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He specialises in conditions affecting the gullet, stomach, bowel and liver, with particular expertise in advanced interventional endoscopy.

Dr Sood has specialist expertise in the assessment and endoscopic treatment of both non cancerous and cancerous lesions involving the gullet, stomach and bowel. He also specialises in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

His clinical work includes gastroscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and bowel cancer screening procedures. He is a nationally accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) colonoscopist and serves as the Clinical Lead for the BCSP in Leeds.

Dr Sood currently has national roles in the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) Colorectal Committee as well as in the BSG Clinical Services Committee.

Dr Sood qualified from the University of Sheffield before completing gastroenterology training in Leeds. During his specialist training, he completed an advanced interventional endoscopy fellowship at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. He was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine research degree from the University of Leeds for his work differentiating irritable bowel syndrome from inflammatory bowel disease and other bowel disorders. In 2019, he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Sood is the Clinical Lead for Gastrointestinal Bleed Service delivery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and Governance Lead for the Gastroenterology department. He is actively involved in the teaching and training of gastroenterologists and surgeons and has designed and delivered endoscopy and gastroenterology workshops in the UK and internationally.

Dr Sood has extensive research experience, with more than 45 peer reviewed publications relating to endoscopy, IBS, IBD and gastrointestinal bleeding, alongside presentations at national and international conferences.
