Mr Rohith Rao

Mr Rohith Rao is a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. He specialises in the diagnosis and surgical management of conditions affecting the oesophagus, stomach and upper gastrointestinal tract. He also manages a range of general surgical conditions including gallbladder disease, hernias and abdominal disorders.

Mr Rao completed his higher surgical training in the Mersey region and has practised as a consultant since achieving his specialist qualification in 2016. He is a member of the regional Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Team for Cheshire and Merseyside.

His clinical practice includes the treatment of acid reflux, hiatus hernias, gallstones and benign upper gastrointestinal disorders including dysmotility conditions. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive (Robotic and laparoscopic) surgery, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, anti-reflux surgery and hernia repair, with experience in managing groin, abdominal wall and complex hernias. He also performs diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and robotic procedures for a range of upper gastrointestinal and general surgical conditions.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Rao is actively involved in medical education for University of Liverpool medical students, supporting the training of future doctors. He is also the CQG Chair for Oesophagogastric Surgery for Cheshire and Merseyside.
