Dr Richard Thompson is a highly distinguished Consultant Paediatrician and Specialist in paediatric hepatology. With a dedicated focus on caring for infants, children, and young patients, he provides expert clinical care across general paediatrics and complex liver conditions. Dr Thompson is committed to delivering compassionate, family-focused healthcare, ensuring that young patients and their parents feel supported, informed, and reassured throughout every stage of diagnosis and treatment.

In his clinical practice, Dr Thompson specialises in paediatric liver disease, with particular expertise in genetic liver disorders affecting children and young adults. His areas of clinical focus encompass progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis, rare biliary disorders, liver molecular genetics, and paediatric liver transplantation care. Working alongside multi-disciplinary healthcare teams, Dr Thompson applies advanced diagnostic techniques and individualised management plans to achieve optimal health outcomes for children facing severe and complex liver illnesses.

Dr Thompson earned his primary medical degrees, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (BM BCh), before completing his Doctorate of Medicine (DM) advanced research degree.
