Mr Raghavendra Sidaginamale

Dr Raghavendra Sidaginamale is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee primary and revision arthroplasty.

He obtained his medical degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, India, and completed postgraduate training in Orthopaedics at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Seeking advanced surgical experience, he relocated to the United Kingdom, where he trained at leading institutions including East Lancashire Hospitals, the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham, and several major London teaching hospitals. During this period, he was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCS).

Dr Sidaginamale completed a six-year Higher Surgical Training Programme in Trauma and Orthopaedics within the North East Deanery, culminating in his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Tr & Orth). He subsequently undertook a 12-month fellowship in hip and knee arthroplasty in Auckland, New Zealand, where he gained advanced experience in complex primary and revision joint replacements, periprosthetic fracture management, and cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, computer navigation, and robotic-assisted surgery.

Dr Sidaginamale holds a Doctorate (PhD) in Bioengineering from Newcastle University, where his research focused on the biomaterials and long-term performance of hip replacements. His collaborative work with national and international experts in surgery, bioengineering, histopathology, and implant design has been presented at major conferences and published in leading journals.

He currently serves as the Research and Development Lead at North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and is the Chief Investigator for the Arthrogenex (Explant) Trial (NIHR Portfolio Trial ID: CPMS 40478). This ongoing study aims to develop a genetic test to match patients with implant biomaterials best suited to their DNA, a breakthrough expected to transform personalised joint replacement care.

As a Consultant at University Hospital of North Tees and Hartlepool, Dr Sidaginamale provides acute trauma services and elective hip and knee surgery. He also serves as the Clinical Audit Lead for Orthopaedics, overseeing national and NICE-accredited quality improvement projects.

Dedicated to teaching, he is an FRCS (Tr & Orth) faculty member and Adult Trauma Life Support (ATLS) instructor, actively involved in training medical students and junior surgeons.

Dr Sidaginamale also offers private consultations and surgery at Woodlands Hospital (Darlington), Nuffield Health Tees Hospital (Stockton-on-Tees), and Consultants Choice Clinic (Stockton-on-Tees), seeing Choose & Book, insured, and self-pay patients with hip and knee conditions.
