About Professor Adrian Stanley

After graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 1988, Prof Stanley trained in Edinburgh, New Zealand, Australia and London, and completed his MD thesis in 1998.  He was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1999 and Honorary
Professor at the University of Glasgow in 2018.

He has a strong research interest with many international collaborations, having published over 150 peer-reviewed papers, several book chapters and multiple abstracts in Gastroenterology and Hepatology to date. He has co-authored several national and international guidelines in these fields, and has also advised SMC and NICE.  He is Director of the annual Glasgow-Gastro Conference and is on the organising committee of other major annual educational meetings.

Prof Stanley was appointed Vice-President (Medical) of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (2019-2022). A founder member of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) International committee and the RCPSG Global Health group, he is heavily involved in a Gastroenterology training project in Malawi (2012-present).  He has been elected to several BSG committees and was appointed Senior Secretary of the BSG (2021-2023). Prof Stanley was elected President of the Scottish Society of Gastroenterology (2022-2024)
