Dr Prashanthi Katta

Dr. Prashanthi Katta is a highly experienced Consultant General Paediatrician with more than 20 years of experience caring for babies, children, and young people up to the age of 16. She has a particular specialist interest in paediatric cardiology and the assessment and management of children with congenital and acquired heart conditions.

She has served as a Consultant Paediatrician and Lead for Paediatric Cardiology at East Surrey Hospital and also works as an Honorary Consultant at Royal Brompton Hospital, where she regularly contributes to specialist paediatric cardiology clinics.

Dr. Katta assesses children with symptoms including chest pain, palpitations, heart murmurs, breathlessness, and suspected cardiac problems, as well as a broad range of common childhood conditions such as asthma, cough, fever, infections, abdominal pain, constipation, headaches, eczema, urinary tract infections, gastroesophageal reflux, and vomiting.

She has extensive experience caring for children born with congenital heart defects and holds recognised certification from the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) in performing echocardiography for children with congenital heart disease. She also conducts paediatric echocardiograms as part of her clinical practice.

Dr. Katta completed her paediatric training across leading centres in London and the South Thames region, including St George’s Hospital, King’s College Hospital, St Thomas’ neonatal unit, Kingston Hospital, and Evelina London Children’s Hospital. She subsequently pursued dedicated paediatric cardiology training at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children followed by a post-CCT fellowship at the Royal Brompton Hospital. She has also completed an RCPCH-recognised Special Interest Module in Paediatric Cardiology.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr. Katta has a strong commitment to medical education and research. She leads the education of medical students undertaking paediatric placements at East Surrey Hospital, runs point-of-care ultrasound courses for paediatric trainees, and has published educational articles aimed at improving paediatric training and clinical practice.

Her approach to care is holistic and family-centred, involving parents and carers closely in clinical decisions and ensuring that both the child and family understand the diagnosis, investigations, and treatment plan.
