Dr. Omar Mahroo

Dr. Omar Mahroo is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Retinal Specialist who provides expert, high-quality eye care for patients experiencing complex vision and retinal conditions. As a clinician and Professor of Retinal Neuroscience, he integrates advanced scientific research with clinical practice to offer patients thorough assessments and individualised management plans. He is dedicated to delivering reassuring and patient-focused care across a wide spectrum of ophthalmic disorders.

In his clinical work, Dr. Mahroo focuses extensively on inherited retinal diseases, macular conditions, retinal electrophysiology, and advanced retinal imaging. He uses specialised diagnostic protocols, including electroretinography, to evaluate functional electrical responses within the retina and accurately identify complex visual conditions. Whether caring for individuals with rare genetic retinal disorders or age-related macular changes, Dr. Mahroo prioritises clear communication, ensuring patients feel fully supported and informed throughout their care journey.

Dr. Mahroo completed his pre-clinical studies, medical degree, and PhD in retinal physiology at the University of Cambridge. He subsequently undertook specialist Ophthalmology training within the London Deanery, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) in 2012. Dr. Mahroo holds additional prestigious professional distinctions, including Fellow of the Physiological Society (FTPS), Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB), and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He is also an active member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the International Society for the Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV), and the British Society for the Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (BRISCEV).
