Dr. Christin Henein

Dr Christin Henein is a Consultant Ophthalmologist, NIHR Clinical Lecturer and Clinical Director with a background spanning clinical ophthalmology, academic research, healthcare policy and innovation. She completed her medical degree at Newcastle University in 2012 and subsequently undertook specialist training in ophthalmology.

Her academic work has included research into corneal epithelial stem cells, for which she completed an MRes with Distinction at Newcastle University in 2011. She later completed a PhD at UCL in 2021 and has undertaken further postgraduate study in clinical research and healthcare leadership.

Dr Henein has held a number of academic, research and healthcare policy roles alongside her ophthalmology training. Her previous work has included serving as National Clinical Policy Lead for specialised commissioning and participating in the Cochrane UK & Ireland Trainees Advisory Group. She has also been involved in clinical research and innovation through an NIHR/Zinc Innovation Fellowship.

Her further ophthalmology training includes certification and education in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, manual small incision cataract surgery, DALK and DMEK. She achieved FRCOphth in 2024 and is a member of the Scientific and Research Committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. She is also a Cochrane Member.
