Dr Nigel Kennea

Dr Nigel Kennea is a dedicated Consultant Paediatrician and Consultant Neonatologist who provides expert, compassionate care for newborn infants and young children. Specialising in neonatal medicine, he focuses on managing complex medical conditions in newborn babies, particularly those born prematurely or requiring specialised clinical support. Dr Kennea is committed to delivering reassuring, family-centred care, ensuring parents receive clear guidance and supportive communication throughout their child's medical treatment.

In his clinical practice, Dr Kennea has established sub-specialty expertise in neonatal brain injury, advanced brain imaging, and the prevention and management of neonatal infections. His work includes implementing robust infection control strategies to prevent hospital-acquired infections in neonatal care environments, safeguarding the health of vulnerable infants. Furthermore, Dr Kennea applies evidence-based approaches to monitor neonatal brain cell development, aiming to protect neurological function and promote optimal long-term outcomes for every baby under his care.

Dr Kennea completed his medical degree at Cambridge University, qualifying in 1991. He subsequently undertook higher specialist clinical training across major neonatal units in the United Kingdom, alongside extensive academic research into neonatal brain injury and infection, for which he was awarded a PhD. His academic background also includes a prestigious Wellcome Trust Fellowship dedicated to researching brain cell development. Dr Kennea is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH).
