Dr Nicole Maclennan

Dr Nicole Maclennan is a Counselling Psychologist with over twenty years of experience working with individuals, couples, families, and children aged nine and up. In addition to providing therapy, she also conducts psychological and cognitive assessments.

She has expertise in a range of areas including:

• Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD);
• Substance misuse;
• Bereavement; Depression;
• Anxiety disorders;
• Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD);
• Psychosis;
• Eating disorders;
• Major trauma;
• Alcohol / drug dependency;
• Relationship problems;

Dr Maclennan takes an integrative approach, meaning that she tailors the intervention to each client's specific needs. Initially, the focus will be solution-focused and based on the frameworks of acceptance and commitment therapy or cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), designed to help manage your symptoms. As sessions progress and you feel more comfortable, more exploratory work, such as psychodynamic interventions or hypnotherapy, can be used. The time frame for therapy is flexible and will be highly individual to each patient's particular requirements.

Dr Maclennan gained her psychology degree in 1996 and has extensive training in CBT, psychodynamic psychotherapy and hypnotherapy. She has previously been the head of an assessment team for children, adolescents and adults.
