Dr Neil Robert Aiton

Dr Neil Robert Aiton is a dedicated Paediatrician and Consultant Neonatologist who provides compassionate, comprehensive medical care for infants, children, and young people. With a profound commitment to improving health outcomes for young patients, he works closely with families to deliver tailored treatment strategies, expert guidance, and reassuring support across all stages of early childhood development and acute illness.

In his clinical practice, Dr Aiton demonstrates specialised expertise in neonatal intensive care and complex newborn medicine. His primary clinical interests focus on perinatal substance misuse, the impact of prenatal alcohol exposure, and the management of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD). Additionally, he has extensive expertise in the physiology of cardiorespiratory adaptation at birth, utilising advanced clinical assessment techniques, neonatal brain ultrasound, and 3D facial photography to inform accurate diagnosis and family-centred care plans.

Dr Aiton earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree and completed a research doctorate (MD) focusing on nitric oxide and the physiology of cardiorespiratory adaptation at birth. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH). Alongside his clinical work, he serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer, contributing actively to medical research, clinical teaching, and postgraduate training in paediatric healthcare.
