About Mr Neil David Bowley

Mr Neil Bowley is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Exeter Eye and Medical Retina and Uveitis Lead at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Initially training as a medicinal chemist, he graduated top of his class with first-class honours from Nottingham Trent University, winning the departmental prize for Academic Achievement and conducting drug development research at AstraZeneca, before earning a PhD in organic chemistry and crystallography. He completed his medical degree (BMBS) at the University of Nottingham's accelerated graduate entry programme in 2012, followed by ophthalmic specialist training in the Peninsula deanery and an advanced fellowship in medical retina and uveitis at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

His clinical practice focuses on complex cataract surgery, refractive lens exchange (including custom toric and extended depth of focus intraocular lenses), ocular inflammation (uveitis), age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and diabetic eye disease. Combining micro-surgical skills with a background in medicinal pharmacology, Mr Bowley emphasises a personalised care philosophy, partnering closely with patients to establish bespoke treatment plans tailored to their vision goals.

This was my first cataract operation of two booked with Neil Bowley. The whole experience was handled well by all of the staff involved, very personable and reassuring. I have just received a call from Mr Bowley to see how I am doing after 24 hours, which was very helpful for me to relate my experience to date and to ask a couple of questions. All very positive to date.

Mr Bowley was extremely kind and sympathetic about my longstanding dry eye condition, and provided excellent treatment, which has resulted in real improvement. Everything was explained very clearly, and overall it was a very helpful and positive experience. Very good consultation and treatment in every way, and I highly reccommend Mr Bowley .
