Dr Nancy Aychoua

Dr Nancy Aychoua is a highly accomplished Consultant Ophthalmologist who specialises in medical retina and ocular genetics. With a deep commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care, she focuses on diagnosing and managing complex retinal conditions and inherited eye disorders. Her clinical work is dedicated to preserving and restoring vision, ensuring that patients receive tailored, state-of-the-art treatments for their specific ophthalmic needs.

Dr Aychoua obtained her medical degree (MD, MBBS) from Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, where her early research focused on macular telangiectasia and the development of clinical databases for retinal disease. She completed her specialist residency training in ophthalmology at a prominent university medical centre in Groningen, contributing to the development of local and national clinical protocols. To further refine her expertise, she undertook two prestigious clinical fellowships at a world-renowned eye hospital in London, gaining advanced experience in genetics, medical retina, and uveitis. She subsequently served as a Clinician Scientist Fellow at a leading institute of ophthalmology in London.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Aychoua is a dedicated researcher and educator. Her extensive research portfolio spans gene and cell therapy, photobiomodulation, inherited retinal diseases, and the integration of artificial intelligence to enhance diagnostic precision and optimise clinical pathways. She has contributed to numerous international clinical trials as a Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator, and she actively teaches ophthalmology fellows and medical students. Passionate about supporting individuals with visual impairments, she also founded a patient-led initiative, Through My Eyes: Photography Beyond Sight, which celebrates the creativity and resilience of people living with sight loss.
