INTRODUCTION:
Mr Mrinal Rana is a very experienced, affable and
an expert Consultant Ophthalmologist working at the University Hospital of
Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. A recent head of Ophthalmology Service, he
currently leads his Cornea Service at the NHS site, which provides support to
entire Coventry, Warwick and surrounding regions for Routine and Complex
Cataracts, Corneal Diseases and Dystrophies (which commonly include Bacterial
and Viral Keratitis, Allergic Conjunctivitis, Keratoconus, Corneal Erosions,
Pterygium) and Dry Eyes (age related; Contact lens related and other systemic
disease related). Under his supervision at his NHS service, he has established
a Nurse led Dry Eyes Service, a Nurse and Optometry led Keratoconus and
Cross-Linking Service, and a Bilateral Sequential Cataract Surgery (BSCS)
service, which he now extends to his private practice to assist private patients.
EXPERIENCE:
A qualified ophthalmologist trained in Liverpool, Leicester, Birmingham and
Cambridge, he has earned two advanced corneal fellowships as well as numerous
peer-reviewed research and publications in his chosen subspecialty, providing
him with an in-depth understanding of disease and the ability to manage various
diseases in a cutting-edge manner. Over the past two decades, he has been
involved in ophthalmology across the UK. As a result of working across
different regions and being exposed to various demographics, he has developed a
holistic and assiduous approach to his patients that reflects high patient
feedback and reviews, as well as being nominated three times for the best
consultant led service award in the NHS achievement awards.
WORK LIFE BALANCE AND CHARITY
He believes in a healthy work-life balance. In
addition to participating in charitable events, he is working in deprived parts
of the world (currently he is planning to lead a Cambodia mission for Khmer
Sight) to treat reversible blindness. Playing racquet sports (Tennis and
Badminton) socially with his kids (who are county tennis players) and social
tennis clubs keeps him fit. He is also a part of his hospital’s cricket team
and enjoys whacking the ball in various corners of field and socialising with
colleagues. He enjoys Stand-up comedy and musicals in his free time and is now
expanding his interests in Philharmonic and Opera.
